At 19,340 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Africa, is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. Chris Waddell, through the power of his arms only, summitted the mountain September 30th.
Using the One-Off handcycle, Waddell has made it to the summit of this African "Mountain of Greatness" after seven grueling days. One Revolution was Waddell's motto for this expedition. Its meaning is many for Chris: one revolution, one handcycle revolution, one earth's turn, one lifetime, one opportunity, one moment, one chance, one change. Waddell is the first paraplegic to make this monumental achievement to the summit. Darol Kubacz made it to 18,700 feet in October 2008, no small feat.
Waddell is the most decorated male skier in paralympic history. His unyielding determination in life to shatter life's challenges is truly a testament that there are no barriers. "Chris shows the world that being disabled does not mean unable," says Mark Wellman. "Through perseverance and technology, he did what many only dream of doing. This is the embodiment of the No Barriers message." To learn more about his climb visit the One-Revolution blog. You can also see a CBS video report of Waddell's climb at CBS News.
